Class Action
A lawsuit where one or a few plaintiffs sue on behalf of a larger group that suffered the same harm.
Class Member
Anyone who falls within the definition of the class certified by the court.
Claim Deadline
The last day to submit a claim form and be eligible for a payment from a class action settlement.
Settlement Administrator
The third party hired to manage notice, process claims, and distribute payments in a class action settlement.
Opt-Out
A formal request to be excluded from the class so you keep the right to sue individually.
Release of Claims
The legal waiver class members give up when they accept a settlement payment.
Pro Rata Distribution
Splitting a fixed settlement fund proportionally among valid claims, so per-claimant amount drops as claim count rises.
Settlement Scam
Fake notices or sites impersonating real class actions to harvest personal data or extract fees from claimants.
